About the Job


Technical Author required to join our world leading client’s software development arm. As a Technical Author you will be producing information products to support software product development and deployment, which include, but are not limited to, Online Help, Installation Guides, Release Notes, Training Manuals, and Videos.

Technical Author Skill Set

  • Proficient communication and presentation skills in English
  • Information gathering (interviewing SMEs, software trials, specifications documents, demos, source content, research, extrapolating)
  • Information usability and architecture (knowledge of human interface, information architecture, needs analysis, audience characteristics)
  • Writing and editing succinctly and clearly
  • In-depth knowledge of technical communication development tools
  • Knowledge of project management and agile software development methodologies
  • Graphics capture basic editing
  • DITA/XML experience
  • Business savvy a plus

Technical Author Deliverables

  • Single-source authoring
  • Online Help
  • User, administrator guides
  • Getting started, installation, configuration guides
  • Release notes
  • Tutorials, training manuals or guides a plus
  • Video creation a plus

Technical Author Methodology

  • Modular documentation and authoring

Technical Author Tools

  • Microsoft Office
  • XML Editing tools such as Oxygen, XMetaL or Arbortext
  • Content management system
  • Microsoft SharePoint
  • Adobe Products (FrameMaker, RoboHelp, Captivate, Acrobat, Photoshop)

Education

  • Bachelors in Technical Communications, Computer Science, Engineering, English, Journalism, Education, or Training
  • Graduate degree or certifications a plus
